10 Stupid Arguments About Chris Nolan That Don't Make Sense

6. Using The Same Cast Is Lazy

Christopher Nolan, to some, is in danger of tipping over into becoming a one-note joke like Tim Burton. Not because he uses the same visual style, composer or any of that in his films (although, admittedly, he does do a lot of those things): no, because he keeps using the same actors in almost every project, in the same way that nobody is surprised when Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter star in a Burton joint. The idea of a repertory company of actors is kind of fun, though. The stars become as much a part of the director's trademark as his directing style, or his choice of cinematographer, the themes he grapples with time and again. Plus really, who doesn't wanna keep seeing Marion Cotillard and Tom Hardy get work? Ultimately, the intentions of this argument are what are confusing. Yeah, he keeps using the same actors. So? What's so bad about that? If it ain't broke, don't fix it, but you can add Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Chastain to it if you fancy, as the saying goes.
