10 Stupid Arguments About Chris Nolan That Don't Make Sense

3. He Thinks He's Smarter Than He Is

If you're the sort of person who argues that, based on his output of films, Christopher Nolan thinks he's way smarter than he actually is, you are suffering from a chronic lack of self-awareness. Because implying that the director has a superiority complex, but you've noticed that superiority complex, because you are superior to him and everyone who likes him, is like ten levels of irony. It'll be a while until you dig yourself out of that limbo. And like, it's a totally baseless accusation anyway. How exactly does a film act smarter than it actually is? In fact, Nolan's one of the few directors working in Hollywood to credit his audience with any intelligence, opting not to explain the bleeding obvious, even when it's all too tempting. He's perhaps got a little pretension in him, and at times might miss the mark when aiming for the level of intelligence he wants in his scripts. Surely that's better than just settling for the lowest common denominator and making Olympus Has Fallen, though? And PS Memento is smart, again.
