10 Stupid Decisions Made By Saw Characters

6. Perez & Billy - Saw IV

Saw V Strahm
Lionsgate Films

The trait of Saw characters making ridiculous choices for the plot's sake takes centre stage once again in this head-scratchingly inept scene from 2007's Saw IV.

In a suitably creepy tableau, FBI agents Strahm and Perez enter a room laden with candles to find Billy the Puppet seated and cackling maniacally. Attached to the creepy doll is one of Jigsaw's trademark cassette tapes labelled "PLAY ME."

As an audience, we are willing these characters to know better - they are familiar with their suspect and his games, why on earth would they play right into one?

However, that is exactly what the naive Agent Perez does as she snatches the tape and is warned "Your next move is critical!" And what exactly is her next move? She steps closer to the creepy puppet as its eyes begin to glint and roll back in its head.

It's hardly a surprise when the doll's face explodes outward and sends debris into the face and neck of the young woman. One can only scream "Why? Why?" Why would someone get so close to something so sinister, why didn't either of them read the room and air more caution?

Perez's injury seems almost justified given just how careless she was. If one listens closely, the cassette can be heard whispering "Step back, you're going to die." Meaning once again one of Jigsaw's helpful survival tips was missed.

Hi! The first thing you should know about me is that I'm a HUGE horror movie nut. A confirmed addict to the WhatCulture Horror YouTube channel I thought I'd try my luck on their writing team. I'm a wannabe author with one completed manuscript submitted to a few agents. Please cross your fingers for me! I am currently working on my second book. If you wanna talk horror or need any movie recommendations, I'm your man! Give me a follow on Instagram... since there doesn't seem to be a section for that in the "socials" tab @that_horror_nerd
