Speaking of Jabba's palace, Princess Leia hardly covers herself with glory when she mounts her own attempt to rescue Han Solo and Chewbacca from the vile gangster. Firstly the attempt itself isn't the the most well-conceived. Her plan B, as soon as she is spotted by the dozens of hangers-on thronging the palace, is to produce a grenade and hope that Jabba believes she's willing to die along with the man she supposedly loves, rather than be captured.

And then there's the fact she is at the palace at all. Luke Skywalker already has his rescue plan in motion. It's not the most coherent plan, certainly, but at least he's made an effort to smuggle in a weapon more useful than a thermal detonator guaranteed to kill him.

Leia, meanwhile, seems to have forgotten to ask if Luke's doing anything about the fact their friends are imprisoned by corpulent crime lord. If she had, he might have found a role for her more useful than getting herself inevitably captured. As it stands she does little more than alert Jabba to the threat of someone coming to rescue Han.
