10 Subtle Movie Easter Eggs Only Hardcore Fans Will Catch
1. Nine Inch Nails - Soul
Pixar's Soul has received effusive praise for, among other things, its sublime musical score from composing team Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who ultimately went on to receive a Best Original Score Oscar nomination for their work.
Reznor has been on such a roll with his scores for movies and TV in recent years that it's easy to lose track of the fact he's also the frontman for legendary industrial rock group Nine Inch Nails.
But Soul included a brilliantly momentary nod to this fact early in the film, mere moments before protagonist Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx) falls down a manhole to his death.
Joe walks past a hardware store where nails (get it?) have been spilled on the pavement, and to hammer the reference home some more, a poster on the far-right side of the screen advertises "9-inch nails."
Pixar once again proves themselves masters of the Easter egg game, filling their movies with ingenious references you'll kick yourself for not noticing sooner.
