10 Subtle Movie Easter Eggs Only Hardcore Fans Will Catch
2. Karl Urban Recreates The Doom Cover Art - Thor: Ragnarok
Thor: Ragnarok is one of the most visually creative movies in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, which combined with Taika Waititi's general sense of playfulness made it fertile ground for some cheeky, elaborate Easter eggs.
Perhaps the best and the sneakiest occurs near the end of the movie when villain Hela's (Cate Blanchett) lackey Skurge (Karl Urban) decides he's had enough and sacrifices himself in order to help the heroes escape Asgard.
Skurge leaps down onto the Bifrost Bridge and starts firing his guns wildly at Hela's army of Berserkers, standing atop a pile of their corpses while doing so.
It's a gnarly, metal-as-f**k image, and one that might seem oddly familiar to video game fans. That's because, of course, it's a direct nod to the inimitable cover art for the legendary first-person shooter game Doom.
The Easter egg becomes even more meaningful when you consider that Karl Urban also starred in the 2005 video game adaptation of Doom, playing protagonist John "Reaper" Grimm, who is basically the movie's surrogate for the game's own protagonist, Doomguy.
