Peter Jackson has freely admitted that he drew significant inspiration from the 1978 animated version of The Lord of the Rings when creating his live-action iteration, and one shot in particular is a loving homage that only die-hard Rings fans are likely to catch.

During Bilbo's (Ian Holm) birthday party sequence in The Fellowship Of The Ring, there's a brief but memorable moment where we witness a hobbit with his feet up shouting "Proudfeet!"

Though the basis for this is taken from J.R.R. Tolkien's source material, the precise framing and composition of the shot are directly inspired by the same sequence from the '78 animation.

On the director's commentary for Fellowship, Jackson notes in particular that he loved how Proudfoot was depicted from a lower angle in the animated film, which he called "brilliant."
