Rian Johnson sure has come a long way since making his feature directorial debut with 2005's cult classic neo-noir Brick, having earned his blockbuster wings with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, scoring a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination for Knives Out, and recently netting himself at least $100 million through a deal with Netflix to produce two Knives Out sequels.

Despite his incredible career trajectory, Johnson clearly hasn't forgotten his roots, as Knives Out contains a blink-and-you'll-miss-it tip of the hat to his debut.

When Marta (Ana de Armas) and Ransom (Chris Evans) are caught up in a high-speed chase with the cops, Marta drives her car down a tight alleyway.

The left-hand side of the brick wall, however, contains a distinctive piece of graffiti - what appears to be the letter A with a notable slant to it.

In actual fact, this is the symbol of a tunnel, a clue which appears memorably in Brick, as protagonist Brendan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) follows it in order to track down his missing girlfriend.
