10 Subtle Movie Homages You Definitely Missed
4. Frozone Getting Water - The Incredibles (Homage To Die Hard With A Vengeance)
Samuel L. Jackson back again here, as it’s no surprise a man with a career as long and eclectic as his offers plenty of opportunity for homage. This one is quite drawn out but played so straight that many people miss it.
Although Frozone’s ‘where is my super suit’ scene is more memorable from The Incredibles, the scene where he reaches for a glass of water is much more tense and gripping.
The scene is remarkably similar to a scene in Die Hard With A Vengeance, with Samuel L. Jackson’s character front and centre again. He talks with the same calm but coiled manner, taking control of a nail biting situation while being held at gun point by a nervy cop. The Incredibles definitely ramps up the tension compared to a lot of Pixar movies, and this scene is a huge part of that.
Pixar and Die Hard shouldn’t really go together, but that’s the magic of Samuel L. Jackson. He does the same thing in both movies, and yet never feels out of place in either. The genius of this homage is how brilliantly it fits, and takes centre stage without disrupting the plot.
