10 Subtle Ways Horror Movies Made You Feel Uneasy

9. Too Perfect - Vivarium

Vivarium is a 2019 horror movie, directed by Lorcan Finnegan and starring Imogen Poots and Brendan McCarthy. The film explores the life of two central characters – a young married couple – who are looking to buy a new home together. After some searching, they meet a strange and charismatic estate agent who invites them to look at a property in a town they've never heard of.

This picture starts out innocently enough, but soon escalates into a nightmare when the couple find themselves trapped in both the home and the town, and dark events begin to happen. There is no escape for them.

What is especially effective and strangely unsettling about the flick is how beautiful, perfect and dreamlike the town and new house is – especially when in reality it hides a true nightmare. Vivarium brings to mind the old saying, “if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.”

The beauty of the town and the couple's new home is a mere mask for true horror. Despite the perfection in appearance, the beautiful weather and the comfortable new house, everything feels truly sinister.
