10 Subtle Ways Horror Movies Made You Feel Uneasy

Raw is a mind-blowing French-Belgian movie which was released in 2016 and directed by Julia Ducournau. A deeply unsettling production - and certainly not one for those who feel queasy at the sight of blood - Raw stars Garance Marillier, Ella Rumpf and Laurent Lucas.

The film follows two central characters, Justine and Alexia, who are sisters and attending veterinary school together. During a party at the college, Justine is forced to eat raw meat as part of an old school ritual. It is after this event that Justine becomes fixated on meat and eating as much of it as she can - to horrific consequences. There is a deeply unsettling quality to the 99-minute flick which explores the sibling's relationship and how far they will go to satiate their desires.

Whilst there are certainly a lot freaky and gory scenes in Raw - lets face it, watching cannibalism isn't something easy to stomach for most of us - it is actually some of the more subtle and symbolic moments that create the most unease in the viewer. Scenes in which our central character eats, licks and slurps their way through eating makes engaging yet revolting viewing - made all the more unsettling when you contemplate exactly what they are eating.

Raw is very bold and savage at times in its use of colour and choreography - especially in vivid, blood-drenched scenes. This is certainly a gem of a film and one not to be missed (if you have the stomach for it!).
