10 Subtle Ways Horror Movies Made You Feel Uneasy
7. It's Just A Toy - Child's Play
Child's Play is now one of the most famous and loved horror franchises of all time. With several feature films in the bag, as well as a popular spin-off television series, the creepy killer doll has certainly made a huge impact in the horror genre.
Released in 1988, directed by Tom Holland and starring Catherine Hicks and Alex Vincent, the movie follows the story of a young boy – Andy Barclay – who receives a Good Guy doll for his birthday. As most of you will know, this doll is anything but a toy and soon unleashes evil on the family. The unusual thing about the first film of the franchise is how little we see of Chucky moving, talking or killing. In fact, apart from one scene mid-film, almost the entire 90 minutes shows us nothing but an inanimate doll who looks exceedingly cute and innocent.
This, for some people, is where the fear lies. Whereas Chucky is very animated in sequels - including facial expressions and moving just like a human being would - it is in the first instalment that he is seen as a toy, and this somehow ranks up the fear factor.
Child's Play is far more subtle than many remember, and this is actually where the uneasiness lies.
