10 Successful Movies That Prove You Will Watch ANYTHING
3. The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies
Box Office: $956 million
Who would've thought you couldn't drag 9 hours of film out of 100 pages of material? Clearly no one at Warner Bros. anyway as the two needlessly long and lacklustre Hobbit films were followed up with a third effort that no doubt had Tolkien spinning like a top in his grave.
The first two films were certainly poor enough to put question to why anyone would put themselves through a third? But yet so many did anyway, and they were greeted with a three hour long slap in the face to one of the greatest fantasy books ever written... and Billy Connolly riding a massive pig (don't ask).
Martin Freeman's performance as Bilbo Baggins, a rare shining light in the trilogy, only serves to highlight the potential The Hobbit could have had if they'd stuck to the original material they had to work with. Instead greed won over as it was stretched apart into three truly poor attempts which sully the memory of the fantastic trio of films that came before them.
Anyone who spent money to watch the third film, after already having forced themselves through the first two, got what they deserved.
