10 Superhero Films If They Were Made By Legendary Directors

1. Stanley Kubrick's Watchmen

http://sorchaedward.tumblr.comSorcha EdwardWe€™ve all imagined what Terry Gilliam and Paul Greengrass€™ Watchmen might have been like given that they almost came to pass but what if Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons€™ masterpiece had fallen on Stanley€™s desk instead of Eyes Wide Shut? Watchmen is perhaps the only superhero property it is possible to imagine Kubrick making, he had previously delved into popular fiction to great success with The Shining so there is no reason a property as complex and acclaimed as Watchmen would be any lesser a prospect for a talent such as his. If we place the idea of Kubrick directing Watchmen in the fourteen year gap between Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut we can form a cast of the kind of actors who would have interested Kubrick and even ones gleaned from both of those productions. Tom Cruise was linked to the role of Ozymandis at various stages anyway and given the fame of the character in the Watchmen universe he would have made for a fitting Adrian Veidt, especially in the hands of Kubrick who would no doubt have coaxed one of his finest performances. Rorschach could be played by James Woods, he never appeared in a Kubrick film but he would work perfectly in this alternative scenario. Rounding out the cast would be Tim Robbins as Nite-Owl, Rebecca De Mornay as the Silk Spectre II and William Hurt as Dr Manhattan. Kubrick€™s Watchmen would have been a fascinating proposition and like The Shining would have been filtered through his unique lens to make a for an altered but no less brilliant version of the story.
