10 Superhero Films If They Were Made By Legendary Directors

8. David Lynch's X-Men

http://sorchaedward.tumblr.comSorcha EdwardHe did Dune (and has previously played with mutant chickens and babies) so there's no reason to think Lynch couldn't have put his hand to an equally recognisable property such as X-Men. David Lynch's mutants would no doubt include: Kyle McLachlan as Cyclops, Dean Stockwell as Nightcrawler, Laura Dern as Phoenix and considering their work together on Dune, Patrick Stewart could retain his role of Professor X in this alternative universe. Wolverine would be trickier to cast, from Lynch alumni there are only really Jack Nance and Bill Pullman who could come close to pulling off the role so instead it would be worth plucking an actor like Michael Biehn. Biehn is commonly associated with another legendary director James Cameron but would work as Logan in a Lynchian take on Marvel€™s Mutants. The mind boggles as to what surrealism Lynch would apply were he to have tackled the X-Men post-Dune, it is unlikely he would make something that would fall into any ongoing continuity, and would probably even hint at the X-Men personas being dreamlike projections of the character€™s inner beings. This is difficult to imagine in some respects but as well as having dealt with sweeping fantastical themes in Dune, Lynch also directed one of the definitive portraits of a societal outcast in The Elephant Man, so imagining the two preceding works feeding into his version of X-Men makes it slightly easier to imagine what form it would have taken.
