10 Superhero Movie Staples That Weren't In The Comics
8. Organic Web Shooters - Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy
As great as Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man movie was, many fans nevertheless bristled up against one major change from the comics - giving Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) organic web shooters.
Traditionally, Parker has always used his own genius to create the webbing mechanically, yet presumably in an attempt to streamline his origin story and cut down on the implausibility factor of a movie already straining it, Raimi simply made the webbing another of Spidey's powers.
Somewhat hilariously, the comics themselves did flirt with giving Parker organic web shooters, as originated in 2004's Spectacular Spider-Man #15-16, where Peter is kissed by the Spider Queen, temporarily transforming him into a spider (!) and leaving him with organic shooters.
But the webbing eventually reverted to being mechanical in the comics without any explanation, and all the post-Raimi Spider-Man movies have similarly opted for man-made webbing.
On one hand you can appreciate where the purists are coming from, as having Peter create the webbing exemplifies his intelligence and resourcefulness.
But from a practical perspective, are we really supposed to believe that a poor kid from New York can keep producing endless amounts of this substance which science itself has seemingly never stumbled across before?
