10 Superhero Movies That Changed Comic Book Characters Forever
5. Batman (1989) - Batman
The Caped Crusader has come along way from his primitive days as a purple glove wearing vigilante, and later a cautionary bomb disposer.
To bring a level of seriousness to the fray, director Tim Burton imagined the masked hero as a shadow prowling Gotham City. Due to this, Michael Keaton dressed in all black with a yellow background to highlight the bat logo as to strike fear into hardened criminals. Abandoning the spandex allowed the creative team to mould pectoralis muscles and abs onto the suit, eliciting the actor to appear more lean. Most movies adopted this formula as it proved so effective.
Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy was influenced by Burton's adaptation, and in The Dark Knight, Christian Bale refers to the common issue both of the actors faced, not being able to turn their head in the suit.
The film's legacy oozed a stern world and character for Batman. Adored by the public eye, later comic runs including The Bat delved into more grim material, and themes making this one of the most prominent of the superhero movie gallery.
