6. Pvt. Hudson - Aliens (1986)
"We're on an express elevator to hell; goin' down!" Bill Paxton's character is there for comic relief in Aliens: his childish, arrogant attitude is hilarious and becomes even funnier when the aliens arrive and he turns into the biggest coward. Comic relief characters don't always work, but Hudson does. And beyond that, although you know he is an idiot but you find yourself rooting for him to survive. Aliens has a lot of great supporting characters in it, and since then almost every film similar to it has had the same character template; the butch one, the smart one, the hero, the quiet one and the funny one. Bill Paxton's Hudson remains the funniest and the most enduring of the lot, standing out against a gallery of very similar genre characters. Even though Hudson doesn't really provide any useful help to the other marines (apart from getting a door unlocked at the very start) but he is the one we can all sort of relate to, simply because he is the only one who is freaked out by the fact that aliens are coming to get them.
