10 Supporting Film Characters Who Completely Stole The Show

8. Anthony Hopkins €“ The Silence Of The Lambs

Should Hannibal the Cannibal have won an Oscar? No question. Hopkins€™ performance speaks for itself. But should it have been for Best Actor? That one€™s a little more difficult to answer. Despite only being in the film for about a fifth of its running time, Hopkins€™ portrayal of Thomas Harris€™ psychiatrist cannibal serial killer, Hannibal Lecter, was and remains revered amongst audiences and critics alike. Even Mads Mikkelsen, who is currently on TV in NBC€™s Hannibal, isn€™t as widely known today for his work playing the character, in spite of the fact Hopkins hasn€™t played the role in over a decade. That the Academy saw fit to put him in the running for Best Actor, rather than Best Supporting Actor, just goes to show what a remarkable job he did with the little screen time he was given opposite Jodie Foster€™s more central Clarice Starling.
