10 Supporting Movie Characters Who Should've Been The Lead

1. Dr. Ishiro Serizawa (Godzilla Reboot)

Godzilla 2014 was divisive when it first came out, a trend that has only continued and intensified with its sequel, King Of The Monsters. While the parts that have Godzilla in them are absolutely fantastic, the human characters tend to leave less to be desired.

All except for one, that is. Dr. Ishiro Serizawa, the one who decides to just let them fight. Classic Godzilla fans already know the primary reason he should be the lead character here: he was the lead in the original 50's Gojira, and should have been the lead here as well.

But like with the original American import of Godzilla, they put him to the wayside in favor of boring, half-note American characters.

And that's ultimately the rub here. If the protagonist we got was actually interesting, this wouldn't be a problem. But Ken Watanabe imbues Serizawa with such intelligence and nuance, that when you're not wanting Godzilla to show back up, you're clamoring for Ishiro to show up and be smarter than everyone else.

Godzilla 2014 is not a bad film at all. But making Dr. Serizawa the lead character would have improved things immeasurably.
