10 Supporting Movie Villains Who Were The Real Antagonist

8. Bane - The Dark Knight Rises

Bane is maybe the best thing about The Dark Knight Rises. His rasping voice, his muscles, his cool jackets. He's the best.

Despite the ending reveal that he was only a dragon to the real villain, Talia Al Ghul, Bane was without a doubt the true antagonist. Not only did Bane have the physicality to challenge Batman, but he was the only one who fought as the Batman. There's a reason Bane is known most famously for being the only one to break the Batman.

While Talia Al Ghul was the brains behind the attack, it was how Bane went about it, rallying the poor, standing for nothing except for what he felt was true, and using tech more advanced and dangerous than Batman would ever consider, that make him more than the main villains' mook.

Talia Al Ghul might have been the last villain Batman would ever face, but it's Bane's fault. He broke the bat so completely that even after defeating the true mastermind, Bruce Wayne abandoned the mantle. He killed the Batman. Not even the Joker can claim that.
