10 Supposedly Smart Movie Characters Who Totally Dropped The Ball

9. Barty Crouch Jr. Waits Until The Whole School Is Watching To Hand Harry Potter Over To Lord Voldemort - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

MCDHAPO EC369 In Harry Potter's fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, our young be-speckled hero finds himself having to play contestant in something called the Triwizard tournament, which it turns out is super dangerous and at one stage you even have to fight a dragon. He also gets a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, a grouchy bloke called Mad-Eyed Moody. At the end of the movie, though, it turns out that Mad-Eyed Moody was actually one of Lord Voldemort's followers in disguise, Barty Crouch Jr., sent to capture Harry. Crouch Jr. eventually achieves his goal when he uses something called a "portkey" (you touch it, and it teleports you to a pre-designated location) to send Harry to a graveyard where Voldemort is waiting. But instead of doing this at literally any other point in the school year, Crouch Jr. decides to make the Triwizard cup in the final challenge the portkey. But why do it when the whole school is out watching the last game? Wouldn't it have been easier to invite Harry to stay after class one day and get him to touch, like, a book? That way, nobody would start looking for him for ages!
