5. Commissioner Gordon Sends The Entire Gotham Police Department Into The Sewers - The Dark Knight Rises
Commissioner James Gordon is a beacon of light admist the darkness that is Gotham City, an ally to Batman, and a citizen of upstanding moral code. Working his way up from a mere patrolman, Gordon is the epitome of a good cop, one who will fight for the rights of his citizens, and doom them all with seriously idiot decisions. Wait, what? You read that right, though: as smart as Gordon is (and he has to be, leading the police force in a place like Gotham), he does make one decision so questionably awful in this movie that it's actually bewildering. In the first half of
The Dark Knight Rises, Gordon finds himself feeling a bit clueless as with what do with new supervillain Bane, given that he barely escaped a confrontation with the guy at the beginning of the movie, and he has been injured as a result. Although the movie tells us that Gordon has only been injured physically, though, we must also assume he's been brain-injured, too, given that - upon learning that Batman has been captured along with the Wayne Enterprises board - he sends the entire police force into the sewers to capture Bane.
The entire police force. This, of course, results in the whole lot of them becoming trapped by a rock slide because Bane has purposely set this up to be a trap, which - in turn - sets up the entire plot of the movie. No cops in Gotham; Bane is in command. But really, Gordon? You sent the
entire police force into the sewers? Like,
everyone? What the heck were you thinking when you made that call?
