8. You Get Annoyed When People Assume All Animated Movies Are Disney
In the grand scheme of things, it probably doesn't matter which studio produced what movie. And many animators and writers go back and forth between Disney and Dreamworks. But for whatever reason, when somebody calls "Shrek" a Disney movie, you feel like the skin is about to rot your face off like a Nazi who just opened the Ark of the Covenant and wishes that he'd been a bit more careful with the whole thing. The main distinction that bugs me is that Disney movies typically avoid overt pop culture references and cheap gags, especially when it comes to Pixar. Dreamworks has a past of copying Disney's releases as well (see Antz and Shark Tale), so while a casual movie-goer's confusion should be forgivable, it's really inexcusable for a film nerd. These things matter. Even if I can't give you actual reasons, they matter, dammit.
