10 Surprising Horror Movie Cameos

7. Fabio, Patrick Ewing, Samuel L. Jackson And Larry King Are In The Exorcist III

After The Exorcist Part II: The Heretic, the possibility of a franchise was dead on arrival. Original novelist William Peter Blatty, however, had conceived of a sequel and pitched it to original director William Friedkin. The project centered on a serial killer possessed by the same demon from the first film, haunting Detective Kinderman (played this time by George C. Scott). When it finally saw the screen, Blatty had taken the director's chair.

The film was seen as an improvement over the last entry - with a moment still ranked amongst one of the most frightening jump-scares - but it was largely uneven due to severe studio interference. It's since enjoyed a healthy cult status.

It does, however, quite possibly have the strangest list of cameos of any film, many of which appear in a dream sequels. Romance novel-model Fabio and Patrick Ewing are angels and Samuel L. Jackson is a blind pianist.

Things don't feel less strange in the real world in which Kinderman passes Larry King and ex-Surgeon General C. Everett Coop. These at least make some vague sense, given the D.C. setting. It's hard to imagine Fabio testifying before congress.

Kenny Hedges is carbon-based. So I suppose a simple top 5 in no order will do: Halloween, Crimes and Misdemeanors, L.A. Confidential, Billy Liar, Blow Out He has his own website - thefilmreal.com - and is always looking for new writers with differing views to broaden the discussion.
