10 Surprising Horror Movie Cameos
8. Wes Craven The Cosplaying Janitor
Scream re-energized the slasher genre for the jaded. Those tired of 80s tropes finally got the meta-treatment, but Kevin Williamson's script treated the material with the same respect those raised sneaking into R-rated genre pictures afforded. Originally, he wanted friend and director Tom McLoughlin (Friday the 13 Part VI: Jason Lives) to helm it but Dimension had a bigger name in mind.
That name, however, paid the same homage to the genre as the script, for who better than one of its icons to handle the material. Whether he was self-dubbed the new master of horror or it was a marketing position, having Elm Street creator Wes Craven lent the project credibility. And he didn't squander it, embracing the whole franchise up until his death.
Craven even appears at the film's mid-point, while principal Henry Winkler searches the office for the killer. You can spot him as the janitor, clad in the infamous Krueger ratty red and green sweater.
