10 Surprising Things Sixties Batman Shares With The Dark Knight

4. A Dynamic Duo

Nolan was adamant when he was making The Dark Knight trilogy that he didn't want to rely on the sillier elements of the Batman trilogy. Which is obviously hogwash, since he's nicked all of his best ideas from the Adam West series, and because he went and did the one thing he promised never to do in The Dark Knight Rises: he revealed that Joseph Gordon Levitt was Robin. That was pretty stupid. But also plays into that whole theory about how the Dark Knight films are like a prequel to the sixties TV show, since that introduction of Batman's young sidekick in the movies was a definite shift away from the gritty realism into, well, people called Robin. Robin was a key figure in developing Batman into a friendlier character in the comics, and in the TV series too. Jonathan €œRobin€ Blake turning up allows Bruce Wayne to leave behind his life as Batman and chill out in Italy. Just like Robin makes everything more fun and colourful in the show!
