10 Surprisingly Realistic Movie Scenes Nobody Saw Coming
5. Spider-Man Can't Beat Rapid Deceleration - The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Though anyone familiar with the comics admittedly expected Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) to perish eventually, the manner in which she dies in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 offers a surprisingly realistic approach to physics in a genre so often derided for defying them.
Gwen's end arrives when she's sent falling from the top of a clock tower by the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan).
As she falls through the air, Spidey (Andrew Garfield) fires some webbing to catch her, but he's ultimately a few seconds too late, as despite the webbing making contact with Gwen, her head smashes against the tower's floor before it can sufficiently decelerate her.
If Spidey were a few seconds quicker, the tensile webbing would've likely been able to decelerate Gwen slowly enough to save her life, but without greater clearance, he was sadly doomed to the laws of physics.
It's rare for superhero movies to get this "real," though it's a moment which evidently stuck with this version of Peter, given that he didn't make the same mistake with MJ (Zendaya) in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
