Cause of Death: Torn to shreds in a blender, cooked in a microwave.

Quite how Gremlins has earned a reputation as a 'family horror movie' over the years is a mystery, and this bloodthirsty scene finely illustrates the confusion.

After the lovable little mogwai have transformed into their troublesome counterparts, Lynn Peltzer finds a trio of the mischievous monsters in her kitchen and proceeds to murder each and every one of them, in a shockingly brutal fashion.

Her first victim is shredded in a blender, causing his blood and guts to spurt out everywhere. She mercilessly stabs the second numerous times and the third is locked in her microwave, slowly heating to the point that it explodes and empties its insides against the glass door.

It's not the killing of the creatures that's surprising here - we'd all do it - it's the amount of detail their deaths are shown in. It's the goriest scene in the film by far, and feels out of sync with the rest of its playful, almost slapstick approach to death and killing.
