10 Surrealist Films That Will Mess With Your Head

7. The Seashell And The Clergyman (1928)

Director: Germaine Dulac Considered the first surrealist film ever made, The Seashell And The Clergyman depicts the erotic hallucinations of a priest lusting after the wife of another man. Essentially a series of perplexing visuals that bear no relationship to one another, the film has been heralded as both profound and absolutely meaningless. Honestly, the film€™s so cryptic that it could mean absolutely anything, or nothing at all, and there would be no way to know. If you€™re interested in filmmaking, or you just want to experience something wonderfully unique, you should definitely check it out. It€™s not quite as interesting as Un Chien Andalou, but it was a principle influence on Luis Buñuel€™s masterpiece, so it certainly deserves some attention.
