Director: Jan Švankmajer An adaption of Lewis Carrolls Alices Adventures in Wonderland, Alice tells the story of a young girl who follows a white rabbit down a rabbit-hole and ends up in the strange world of Wonderland. Quite unlike other films that have interpreted Carrolls work, Alice accentuates the bizarre, otherworldly elements into a grotesque and terrifying plethora of visual delights. The use of stop-motion really adds to this effect, giving many of the characters strange, uncanny movements that will really give you nightmares. The film's an absurd, terrifying interpretation that cinephiles and Lewis Carroll enthusiasts should definitely experience. It sheds away the niceness and the congeniality of other interpretations, replacing it instead with a healthy dose of nightmarish awfulness. It's truly magical.
