10 Suspiciously Similar Movies Released In The Same Year

6. Magicians - The Prestige vs. The Illusionist (2006)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS9UyM3MV_A Released in August of 2006, The Illusionist depicts Edward Norton as Eisenheim the Illusionist, who attempts to win the heart of a beautiful Duchess (Jessica Biel) who is totally out of his league. Much of the film surrounds the mystery over how Eisenheim is able to perform the various amazing feats throughout. The same can be said of Christohper Nolan's The Prestige, released in November of that very year. It instead chronicles the feud between two master magicians (Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman) as they attempt to one-up one another while the audiences remains mystified how they're able to perform these crazy feats. What Came First: The original short story Eisenheim the Illusionist was first published in 1989, whereas the source novel for The Prestige didn't come about until 6 years later. Similarly, The Illusionist released 3 months earlier, suggesting that Neil Burger had the leg-up on Nolan. What Was Better: Both films are great fun, though I'll just about give it to Nolan; it's a more fiendish, tricky, clever film even if, like the animation debacle, the audience wins out either way.
