10 Suspiciously Similar Movies Released In The Same Year

5. Hooking Up With Friends - Friends With Benefits vs. No Strings Attached (2011)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYl4RhlI-9A Ivan Reitman's No Strings Attached is about two friends (Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher) who decide to start hooking up while keeping things uncomplicated, but of course, by film's end, they fall for one another. Will Gluck's Friends with Benefits is exactly the same premise, albeit with Portman and Kutcher replaced by Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. What Came First: No Strings Attached, originally written under the title Friends with Benefits before the other production forced them to change it, started filming 2 months before Gluck's film, though wound up releasing a whole 6 months earlier, with the latter film likely being delayed to give the two a little distance. Gluck lamented the comparisons between the two, suggesting that the two started production at around the same time and it was merely a coincidence, something star Kunis supported. What Was Better: Hard to say. Both films are pretty much the same plot but with different gags; Timberlake and Kunis have better chemistry, though the film suffered from being released second, even if it did have the better critical reception of the two. Both films grossed almost $150 on relatively small budgets, so again, everyone wins.
