10 Teased Movie Endings That Frustratingly Never Happened

3. John Connor Dies - Terminator Salvation

Terminator Salvation is in no way a good movie, and there's a strong argument to be made that it's even the worst of the five Terminator movies to date, but it did at least bring a few intriguing ideas to the table...which it then thoroughly undermined.

For starters, having Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) be a human-Terminator hybrid was a neat concept, given away for free in the movie's marketing for no logical reason.

But the second and more tantalising plot point was the intended original treatment of resistance leader John Connor (Christian Bale), who ends up stabbed through the heart by a T-800 at the end of the film.

While in the final movie Marcus ends up saving John's life by giving him his own heart in a transplant, the filmmakers originally had a far smarter and more interesting ending up their sleeve.

The film was supposed to end with Connor dying from his wounds, at which point his skin would be fitted over Marcus' endoskeleton, allowing John Connor to live on as a figurehead for the resistance while, ironically, being a machine underneath.

It was a ridiculous yet inventive concept, the DNA of which is still evident in the final film, yet ultimately an executive decision was made to skew safer and keep Connor alive.

In a further bout of irony, though, it sounds like the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate may well be marginalising the John Connor character itself - minus the nifty identity twist, however.
