10 Teased Movie Endings That Frustratingly Never Happened

2. Nell Isn't Possessed - The Last Exorcism

If you look past its generic horror movie title, The Last Exorcism is a terrifically executed found footage flick, following a disillusioned minister, Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian), who allows a documentary crew to film him as he attempts to expose the fraud of his ministry by performing one final faux exorcism.

The subject of his exorcism is Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell), a young woman who has been apparently slaughtering livestock and eventually falls pregnant, presumably by the Devil.

But late in the movie, Marcus comes to learn that Nell is not possessed, but an embarrassed young woman who became pregnant after losing her virginity to a local boy. Case closed, right?

In the final five minutes of the film, however, Marcus learns that the local boy is in fact gay and Nell's story is therefore untrue, prompting him to revisit the house to find the family in the middle of an occult ritual, which concludes with Nell giving birth to a satanic entity.

The film then ends with Marcus, his faith renewed, running towards the family with a cross, while the filmmakers are killed in the ensuring scuffle. The End.

Like Source Code, this movie had the right ending five minutes before it actually ended, because isn't Nell's repressed sexuality a far more satisfying and compelling explanation for her behaviour than a double-twist that ends with all the usual paranormal nonsense?

Despite how refreshing this would've been, for fear of leaving the popcorn-munching crowds unsatisfied, it had to end with typical found footage silliness.

And finally, if you haven't seen Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood yet, MAJOR SPOILERS will follow...
