10 Teaser Trailers Better Than The Actual Movie
1. Solo: A Stars War Story
Solo, much like Rogue One, really could've been something special. The movie had a dynamite cast and an accomplished director duo in Phil Lord and Chris Miller, what could go wrong? Well, following a complete creative disagreement over the direction of the project, Disney elected for a 'safer' bet in replacement director Ron Howard. Many were skeptical that the film could be much of anything.
Yet, that Super Bowl trailer for the film was very promising. Sharply edited with action beats working simultaneously with the score, the sense of energy was contagious. The trailer does a great job of making you feel a wave of excitement as Han Solo (with Chewbacca by his side) get ready to assemble a crew for a big heist. It's just a shame the movie couldn't hook you like its marketing did.
Put simply, this sense of momentum and energy is nowhere to be found in the final product. For a movie about the unpredictability of the lawless lifestyle, it was (mostly) predictable. You never really feel like you're seeing anything new, instead just getting answers about Han Solo, even though none of the questions were worth asking.
Dragging it down the most is the movie's surprisingly poor cinematography that makes looking at it something of a chore. For a movie about characters taking risks, Disney just played it far too safe.
