10 Teaser Trailers Better Than The Actual Movie
7. Suicide Squad
While discussions of Justice League's Snyder Cut persist, it's difficult not to feel that David Ayer's original version of Suicide Squad should receive some comparable attention.
After all, look at the original teaser for SS, then compare it to the rest of its marketing. It teases a moody, darkly comic experience that follows an eclectic group of imprisoned baddies taking on forces far more evil than them. The movie had Harley Quinn in her live-action debut, Will Smith in a central role, and Jared Leto's Joker ready to make an impression.
Unfortunately, thanks to the rushed production and the success of the 'lighter' marketing, the final product is on a different stratosphere from SS's initial first look. There was a haunting, heavy atmosphere with Suicide Squad's teaser. Even if you prefer the less bleak trailers, the teaser at least left an impression, unlike the final film.
After falling victim to WB's desire to 'lighten up' the DC universe and test audiences that like their movie experiences to lack unpleasantness, the movie became a forgettable action movie about villains that don't feel like villains. No intensity, no energy, no impressions left.
