10 Teaser Trailers Better Than The Actual Movie

5. The Nun

No one likely had massive expectations for the next of several Conjuring spinoff movies, but considering the surprisingly-solid Annabelle Creation, there was hope that the Nun could maintain the hot streak. The film's sole trailer is a teaser in every sense, showing little and explaining nothing. Unlike other spinoffs though, it finally seemed to recreate the atmospheric direction that only James Wan managed with both of his installments.

Most teasers serve as a delightful hint as to what the full movie has in store, but in the case of The Nun, it essentially showed its best elements: the location and the (relatively few) decent shots. What it didn't show off was the atrocious writing chockful of exposition and 'attempts' at comedy, as well as the downright lazy use of jump scares. Any sense of atmosphere or tension that's felt in the trailer is downright absent in the full release.

To add to it, the film's namesake Nun can barely manage any sort of horror as they're never on-screen. Worse yet, they completely strip any ambiguity with the being as they over-explain everything about Valak and their origins. When you remove the unanswered qualities of a character like Valak, there's no intrigue left. By the time you reach the credits you'll wish you just stuck to watching the trailer.
