10 Teaser Trailers Better Than The Actual Movie
3. Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets
When Luc Besson confirmed the casting for his latest venture into sci-fi, many were puzzled at the choice of Dane DeHaan as the movie's Han Solo-like leading man. However, those concerns were heavily overshadowed by the phenomenal visuals that rivaled any blockbuster releasing that year. What ties it all together is the epic cover of the Beatles' song Because, giving it a great sense of adventure and wonder.
However, all the superb visuals and imagination in the world can only do so much, and when the movie needed a leading man, DeHaan still felt extremely miscast. The script called for a manly man that oozed charisma and he always felt like he was trying to fit a role that wasn't meant to be his. You wish they would've focused more on the exploration and action because that's where it excels, but there's too much quiet between firefights.
Valerian has its strong points and the teaser showcases much of what audiences gravitated towards. However, unlike the teaser, the full movie lacks that feeling of wonder that makes other movies in this genre thrive.
