Like it or not, chances are that whoever ends up playing the new Spider-Man is likely to have gained popularity through one of those wretched young adult novel adaptation franchises. Thankfully not Twilight - most of its stars are too old, or already too famous to get cast as Peter Parker - but it's probable you'll see a John Green alumni in the mix at some point. One of the least terrible ways for that to end up is for Nat Wolff to get cast in the role. The 20-year-old was one of the big draws for The Fault In Our Stars, the long-awaited film version of John Green's teen cancer weepie, where he starred opposite Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort as the latter's blind best friend. The role drew on his comedic skills honed as a member of The Naked Brothers Band. His part in that band meant he starred in the Nickelodeon mockumentary of the same name, which purported to follow the real-life ridiculous scrapes the group got into. As such, Wolff is one of the few teen heartthrobs on Sony's shortlist who's proven he's capable of bringing the requisite laughs and charisma that Peter Parker needs (something Tobey Maguire never managed). Plus, as his turns in The Fault In Our Stars and second upcoming John Green film Paper Towns, he's a hell of a dramatic actor to boot.
