10 Terrible 2014 Films That Tricked Us With Awesome Posters

1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Why The Poster Works: Surprisingly, almost all of The Amazing Spider-Man 2's posters were good. They teased the sequel's three lead villains (one even revealed that the Green Goblin would be in the movie) and showed off Spider-Man's comic book faithful costume in its full glory. That was a big deal to fans, especially after the disappointing redesign he donned in the first movie. This one is particularly good though as Spidey strikes a fairly iconic pose - it's like he's been torn from the pages of the comic books - while Oscorp is present to remind viewers that the shady company is still the overarching threat in the Marc Webb helmed series. Why The Movie Sucked: As good as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 looked in both the trailers and the poster above, it ended up being a crushing disappointment. Sony thought they had a $1 billion hit on their hands (which is why they threw so much money at it), but it was the Batman & Robin of the Spider-Man franchise and has left the character in limbo as the studio struggles to decide what to do next. The villains who looked so cool on the posters were laughably bad, but Spider-Man's new suit did at least look just as good in action. Oscorp's role meanwhile would prove to be just as baffling here as it was in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man. Which movie posters tricked you in 2014? What was the best poster of the year, irrespective of the movie's quality? Have your say down in the comments.
