10 Terrible 2014 Films That Tricked Us With Awesome Posters

2. Transformers: Age Of Extinction

Why The Poster Works: Regardless of how Transformers fans felt about the previous movies, the sight of Optimus Prime riding Grimlock into battle was more than enough to convince them to give the Michael Bay helmed release a chance. The poster is simplistic in the respect that it could just as easily just be a still from the CGI heavy Transformers: Age Of Extinction, but sometimes that's all fans need to get excited, especially when it's a fairly iconic piece of imagery like this. The "Stand Together Or Face Extinction" tagline certainly seemed to indicate that there were big things in store for an epic team-up between the Autobots and Dinobots as well. Why The Movie Sucked: As it turns out, those "big things" weren't all that big. For starters, the Dinobots who had been featured so heavily in posters like this (not to mention the many trailers and TV spots) ended up getting what was basically a glorified cameo. As sad as it is to say, they were in many ways the most forgettable part of Michael Bay's fourth crack at the Transformers franchise, and longtime fans once again were left feeling let down. The movie had initially held a lot of promise, but it became clear that their inclusion was done as a way of reviving interest in the franchise. It worked too, as this was the highest grossing release of 2014.
