10 Terrible Blockbusters That Wasted An Awesome Cast

7. Alexander (2004)

The story of Alexander the Great had been Oliver Stone's passion project for decades, and when the director's vision finally hit theaters it was ultimately remembered for all the wrong reasons. Since then, Stone has gone back to the well and released a Director's Cut, a Final Unrated Cut and an Ultimate Cut of the movie, none of which fail to cover the many shortcomings that plagued the theatrical release. The director assembled a top-quality cast for his $155m epic but several uneven performances, sluggish pacing and plenty of overwrought dialogue result in a historical epic that isn't as important as it thinks it is. Colin Farrell can deliver a great performance with the right material, but Alexander wasn't it. Burdened by an unintentionally hilarious hairdo, the actor fails to convince as a leader, not to mention one of history's greatest figures. Angelina Jolie, Val Kilmer and Anthony Hopkins throw subtlety out of the window with their scenery-chewing performances that are greatly at odds with the seriousness of the project, while Jared Leto and Rosario Dawson do their best with one-dimensional characters that spew stilted dialogue. The lengthy supporting cast also features the likes of Christopher Plummer, Jonathan Rhys-Myers and Toby Kebbell but even an ensemble cast packed with talent failed to stop Alexander from becoming a misfire of epic proportions.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
