10 Terrible Blockbusters That Wasted An Awesome Cast

6. Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian (2009)

Shawn Levy's Night at the Museum became one of the biggest hits of 2006, landing in theaters during the festive season and proving to be the go-to option for family audiences, leading the movie to a box office gross of almost $575m. While the concept had the potential to deliver an entertaining adventure, the execution resulted in a bland, lightweight and ultimately forgettable blockbuster. The inevitable sequel followed three years later, with the returning cast backed by even more star power that stuck to the established formula and offered more of the same, wasting one of the greatest comedy ensembles to ever appear in a single movie. Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, Steve Coogan and Ricky Gervais all reprised their roles from the original, and were joined by the immensely talented Amy Adams alongside a veritable who's who of Hollywood comedy. Hank Azaria, Christopher Guest, Bill Hader, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson, Ed Helms and Jonah Hill all feature in either supporting roles or cameos while Jon Bernthal pops up as Al Capone and James Earl Jones makes a voice appearance as Darth Vader. Despite boasting such a strong cast, Battle of the Smithsonian stuck rigidly to the established formula and audiences noticed, resulting in the sequel grossing over $160m less at the box office than its predecessor.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
