3. Chrystal’s Death - Old
M. Night Shyamalan is so good at this sort of thing, that he gets two different entries in this list.
In 2021, the infuriating icon unleashed his new movie Old, AKA "The Beach That Makes You Old". A group of people find themselves trapped on a beach which, somehow, causes them to age at an increased rate. The whole thing turns out to be the work of a dastardly pharmaceutical company, in a twist far-fetched even by Shyamalan's ridiculous standards.
By far the best and most affecting part of The Beach That Makes You Old is the death of Chrystal, a glamorous young woman played by Abby Lee.
When confronting her fellow prisoners in a cave, Chrystal drops a rock on her shoulder, breaking it. The beach's powers heal her, but she suffers from hypocalcemia, which affects her body's calcium levels. Chrystal's bones grow back disfigured, setting off a catastrophic chain of events that leaves her body twisted and broken.
Considering her whole character is based on her looks, Chrystal's fate is doubly horrible and easily the most tragic part of the film.
Well, intentionally tragic, anyway.
