10 Terrible Live Action Anime Adaptations

1. Devilman

Attack On Titan Wall
Toei Company

Based on the popular manga and anime, the Devilman movie tells the story of a teenager who learns demons are real, and to prevent the apocalypse he must merge with one and become a hero.

It might sound like a typical superhero origin story, but the manga is a dark affair with some memorable characters and monsters. Quite how the producers behind the movie version messed it up so horribly, we’ll probably never know.

It tries to recreate famous scenes from the manga, but it randomly stitches them together with no concern for a coherent plot. The CGI effects are eye wateringly bad, and the lead performances are almost impressively poor. Once in a while it will admittedly remind the viewer of how good the anime was, but that feeling passes quickly.

Devilman was voted the worst Japanese film of the 2000’s in an online poll, which isn’t a great achievement, but at least it got recognised for something.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
