10 Terrible Movie Moments The Directors Didn't Even Want
4. Thor's Bizarre Vision - Avengers: Age Of Ultron
It is nothing short of remarkable that the sequel to The Avengers - the turning point in the biggest franchise of all time - was as good as it was. Director Joss Whedon had to accomplish a myriad of things outside of making an entertaining film, such as crafting an intriguing villain, putting the pieces in place going forward and adding depth to underdeveloped characters while introducing new ones.
According to Whedon though, Marvel Studios didn't exactly make it easier. As much as we applaud them (particularly head Kevin Feige) for their decision making when developing the MCU, this was not one of those times. Aiming to drop heavier hints about the future, they insisted on a scene where Thor enters a cave and has a confusingly ambiguous vision setting up the Infinity Stones. In fact, they wanted it so badly they threatened to cut out the farmhouse segment, making Whedon having to fight to keep it in.
Alas, Thor's vision made the final cut, as jarring and unnecessary for the film (and perhaps even the overall MCU) as it was. Given how much of a highlight the farmhouse scenes ended up being, Whedon was definitely on the right side of history with this one.
