10 "Terrible" Movie Sequels That Are Actually Good
3. Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines
Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines often finds itself getting a ton of unnecessarily negative feedback because it was, at one point in time, the worst film that the legendary franchise had to offer. While true, it's less of a criticism of it as a solo entity and just more of an appreciation of The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day - both of which were as close to cinematic perfection as you can get. And, in T3's defense, it's no longer the worst - not by a longshot.
While each sequel to come after it misunderstood what made the first two Terminator films so successful in some way or another, T3 (for the most part) did not. Sure, it struggled to apply those elements to the plot as elegantly as its predecessors did and the result was a much-less clever installment that didn't really need to be made, but it was still a ridiculously fun romp that went out of its way to accelerate things with its ambitious set pieces. And, in all fairness to it, it succeeded.
A highly entertaining action blockbuster that deserves much more credit than it ever gets, Rise Of The Machines was a solid entry in the franchise. And while it's certainly not T2, it's also not T4, T5 or T6... and that's a good thing!
