With a budget said to be as high as $258m, Man of Steel wasn't exactly cheap, but after turning out to be the launchpad for an entire cinematic universe it soon became apparent that Batman was the DC superhero that Zack Snyder really wanted to get his hands on.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has enough content to fill at least three movies, and made the DCEU's desire to sprint towards Justice League as soon as possible all the more apparent. Half of the cast have either been rebooted, replaced or swept under the rug since it was released, and yet there's still no sign of Henry Cavill headlining a second solo adventure for the Big Blue Boy Scout.

Despite being a $300m comic book epic, Batman v Superman still never settles on what it wants to be. Is it a Man of Steel sequel? Is it a Batman reboot? Is it an extended advert for Justice League?

The answer is both all and none of the above, because there's just so much going on in terms of plot, character, Easter Eggs and hints of things to come that none of it manages to stick, and the much-anticipated showdown that sold the entire movie is over in about three minutes, and still gives fans the shivers whenever they hear the name Martha uttered out loud.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
