10 Terrible Movies That Got ONE Thing Right

9. Transformers Frachise - Optimus Prime

Oh Michael Bay. So many childhood memories ruined.

Optimus Prime has always been the heart and soul of the Transformers. His cartoon death in 1986 traumatized a whole generation of kids.

I'm not crying. You're crying.

In the movie franchise starting in 2007, no matter how Michael Bay-ish things get around him, Optimus Prime, and by extension his legendary voice artist Peter Cullen, remain an oasis of calm. While other characters are given horribly stereotypical accents or, sigh, giant robotic balls, Prime is the competent, powerful, and wise warrior he has always been.

Peter Cullen provides a wonderful link to over thirty years of Transformers history with his voiceover work, reassuring both his fellow warriors and us that even with the most ridiculous of scenarios (Transformers were part of the Knights of the Round Table, anyone?) and most poorly written dialogue, his soothing voice and words of leadership will make everything alright.

Even as other Transformers around him are treated as caricatures or played strictly for laughs, and things that would never explode in real life explode, Optimus Prime brings an air of nobility to the proceedings that is one of the best parts of the franchise.
